 The
Coton de Tulear is also known as The Royal Dog of Madagascar. This name was
given to him as a favourite pet of the monarchy of Madagascar, the country of
it's ancestry in the early 17th century.
In this
period the monarchy allowed nobody with no royal blood to own this dog, under
penalty of death. The original name "Coton de Tulear" is a combination of the
strong resemblance of the fur with the fruit of an cottonplant (Coton), and
the part of Madagascor where hij had lived (Tulear).
In the
year of 1971 the race was officially acknowledge, and as of the year 1975 the
Coton was first spotted in Western Europe. At the beginning of the nineties
I started my kennel to breed with the Coton de Tulear. I'm am pursuing my aim
to keep the breed as healthy and original as possible. |
